Housing for those who have been in care or adopted is a current issue in the UK, especially when they are between the ages of 16-25. The brief for this project is to create a space where those with nowhere to live can stay, but also to improve their chances of finding a job or being able to fit into society. This will be achieved through the use of rooms designed to aid the inhabitants in dealing with their emotions and on site therapy rooms in order to aid in their healing process.
The Ground floor of the building is separated into different environments that arouse varying emotions. This concept is used to encourage the inhabitants to start to associate their emotions with the environment they take themselves to at that time and begin to understand how they can deal with emotions such as anger. The main corridor is designed in a zig - zag in order to force the users to look up at where they are going and encourage eye contact or social interaction which is often something those who have suffered rejection will avoid. The ceiling design in each area is also important and always involves light in some form. This is to attract people’s eyes and force them to look around the room and take in the environment they are in, rather than being closed off.
